The United States has undertaken several actions to support Sudan’s reintegration into the international community and invites U.S. businesses to explore investment opportunities in Sudan:
- In December 2020, we rescinded Sudan’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.
- In January 2021, the U.S. Treasury Department signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Finance to help Sudan clear $1.055 billion dollars in World Bank arrears. This will allow the World Bank to offer new assistance to Sudan.
- In addition, in January 2021, the Export-Import Bank signed an agreement with the Ministry of Justice to explore options for using EXIM financing, such as loans, guarantees, and insurance, to help U.S. companies invest and do business in Sudan. This will enhance economic cooperation in areas including but not limited to infrastructure, energy, agricultural, and health care projects.
