Community Health Day in Kalakla

May 6, 2015

Members of the United States Embassy in Khartoum participated in a Community Health Day on May 2 in Kalakla. The event was sponsored by the Abd Elaal Elidrissi Organization for Self Rehabilitation – a non-profit group formed in 2008 to support the psychological needs of homeless people, persons with addictions, and/or those at-risk for taking their own lives. The U.S. Embassy’s Regional Medical Officer made a few remarks regarding U.S.-Sudan medical cooperation and noted the Embassy would be commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in Sudan and throughout the world. The Abd Elaal Elidrissi organization conducts Community Health Days on a semiregular basis to respond to medical needs in different communities. To date, they have provided attention to over 2260 persons. In addition to providing medical consultations, they have a lab and pharmacy that provides free services. The May 2 event provided medical care and advice to more than 100 men, women, and children. Awareness building is a major part of the Community Health Day, which typically lasts three days.
