Invitation to apply for the 2021-2022 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program through the Embark system

The US Embassy Khartoum deadline for receipt of application forms through the Embark system is August 1, 2020.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a Fulbright exchange that brings mid-career professionals with demonstrated leadership potential to the United States for a year of non-degree graduate-level study, leadership development, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts in fields that are crucial to foreign policy goals.  By providing future leaders and policy makers with experience in U.S. higher education, society, culture, and professional organizations, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas.

Attention:

All Nominees should take their language test between July and September 2020 so that it can be included in their scores with other nomination materials by the October 1, 2020 deadline.

English Language Testing:

U.S. universities require current English language test scores for Humphrey candidates from all countries outside the English-speaking Caribbean. Applicants with TOEFL scores lower than 525 on the paper-based test (PBT) or 71 on the internet-based test (iBT) are not technically eligible for the regular Humphrey competition but may be eligible for the Long-Term English program. All Applicants should take their language test between July and September 2020.

Program Components:

a). Academic Study:

Approximately 13 U.S. campuses have been selected through a competitive process based on their ability to offer institutional and professional resources to host cohorts of Fellows in designated fields of study.  Humphrey Fellows may not request placement at any particular university.  Faculty advisors assist Fellows in pursuing balanced academic and professional programs.  Even though Fellows will spend time in an academic setting and are able to take classes at a U.S. university, the Humphrey program is classified as a non-degree program by the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).  Humphrey Fellows cannot transfer from non-degree status to degree status under any circumstances.

b). Leadership and Professional Development:

Professional enrichment activities include professional visits, enhancement skills workshops, conferences, training programs, and a professional affiliation (placement).  The professional affiliation provides firsthand exposure to a U.S. work environment on a full-time basis for a minimum period of six weeks. Early in the academic year, each Fellow develops, with assistance from the local campus coordinator and faculty advisors, a detailed plan of practical professional activities geared to the Fellow’s Humphrey program objectives.
