Event: The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum has suspended its operations. Currently, there are no U.S. consular officers in Sudan. The embassy is unable to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Sudan. Consular services are available in neighboring countries for those who choose to depart on their own. The U.S. government will continue to provide information for U.S. citizens in Sudan, including exit options.

Port Sudan: The U.S. government has completed all currently planned convoys to Port Sudan. U.S. citizens should not go to the Hotel Coral in Port Sudan or the Fenti Golf in Khartoum. The U.S. government is no longer present to assist U.S. citizens in these locations. For individuals who travel to Port Sudan independently, there may be seats available on departing vessels.
Port Suakin: Tickets may be available for purchase for passage on commercial ferries, including on the Aziz Express. Any available tickets may be purchased in-person from the office of the Qartage ticketing agent offices in: Suakin, Sudan; Port Sudan, Sudan; or Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Passengers should go to the relevant port and look for the Qartage office. The ticket agent office can be reached at +249 91-254-8526. Tickets must be purchased in cash.
Land Border Crossings: We understand that border crossings into neighboring countries, such as Egypt, may be possible. If you are able to travel to a border crossing and believe it is safe to do so, please be aware that wait times and conditions at crossing points vary widely and could change quickly. Chad: A visa is required for U.S. citizens in advance of arrival. Review the Chad Traveler Information page. U.S. Embassy N’Djamena website.
Egypt: U.S. citizens are eligible for visa on arrival at the port of entry. This costs $25. For most U.S. citizens, there is no visa requirement ahead of arriving at the land border. Eritrea: A visa is required for U.S. citizens in advance of arrival. Review the Eritrea Traveler Information page. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Eritrea, as U.S. government employees must obtain special authorization to travel outside of Asmara.
