COVID-19 Information

*** As of 12:01 a.m. EDT June 12, 2022, the CDC order requiring all persons aged two and above to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States is rescinded.  Starting at 12:01 a.m. EDT on June 12, 2022, the CDC will no longer order air passengers to show a negative COVID-19 test result, or show documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States.  Of note, CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect.  For more information see Requirement for Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Air Passengers.

Country-Specific Information:

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not issued a Travel Health Notice for Sudan due to COVID-19, indicating an unknown level of COVID-19 in the country. Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC’s specific recommendations for vaccinatedand unvaccinated travelers.   • Effective August 2, 2022, the Federal Ministry of Health announced the cancellation of all COVID-19 travel regulations imposed on the entry of travelers arriving in Sudan.
  • Sudan can conduct COVID-19 tests domestically.

COVID-19 Testing

Are PCR and/or antigen tests available for U.S. citizens in Sudan? Yes.

If so, are test results reliably available within 72 hours? Yes.

  • You may find an unofficial English translation of accredited laboratories here.
  • The delivery method of test results may differ from laboratory to laboratory; however, most laboratories provide physical copies.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information:

Has the Government of Sudan approved a COVID-19 vaccine for use? Yes.

Are vaccines available in Sudan for U.S. citizens to receive? Yes.

  • Vaccines are available to all residents of Sudan who meet the current prioritization guidelines found on the Federal Ministry of Health’s website and Facebook page.

  • The United States Government does not plan to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to private U.S. citizens overseas. Please follow host country developments and guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination.

Entry and Exit Requirements:

Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Yes.

Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry? No

  • Effective August 2, 2022, the Federal Ministry of Health announced the cancellation of all COVID-19 travel regulations imposed on the entry of travelers arriving in Sudan.

Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for U.S. citizens to exit Sudan? This depends.

  • For passengers departing Sudan, please note that some airlines require proof of a negative COVID-19 test regardless of destination while others will require proof only if required by the destination. We encourage all passengers to check with their airline and destination country for information on testing, vaccination, or other requirements.

Are health screening procedures in place at airports and other ports of entry? Yes.

  • The Government of Sudan may conduct temperature checks and other health screening measures.

Movement Restrictions

Is a curfew in place? No.

Are there restrictions on intercity or interstate travel? No.

  • Interstate and intercity public transportation is fully operational.

Quarantine Information

Are U.S. citizens required to quarantine? No.

For suspected cases, the Ministry of Health has established isolation centers at the Khartoum and Omdurman Teaching Hospitals, Jebra Trauma Center, Universal Hospital in Khartoum North, and at formerly known Biruuwt Hospital in Port Sudan.

Transportation Options

Are commercial flights operating? Yes.

  • International and domestic commercial flights are operating.

Is public transportation operating? Yes.

Both intercity public transportation and public transportation between cities and states is fully operational.
